PRESENTATION TITLE: Coding Essentials for the Administrator GOAL The Goal of this session is to discuss compliant coding and billing and its impact on a practice’s bottom line OBJECTIVES 1. Review compliant coding   2. Examine the processes of compliant coding and billing for financial viability   3. Develop an overall awareness for focused coding and billing essentials in a Radiation oncology practice   ABSTRACT: This session will begin with a brief review of compliance coding, a synopsis of the mission of The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and insurance payors as they focus on ensuring payment of medically necessary services. Because coding and billing impacts the practice’s bottom line, administrators must have a system in place to review all aspects of the practices’ coding and billing practices.  While this may not include detailed knowledge of code definitions, it does require high-level oversight of the coding processes. Last, The Office of the Inspector General has increased its vigilance on ensuring practice’s accurately code and bill for services performed.  As a result, a methodology that ensures fee schedules, coding and billing practices are accurate and defensible will enhance the profit margin and ensure the needed financial gains for on going technological improvements.
