PRESENTATION TITLE: Coding Injections & Infusions GOAL: The goal of this session is to explain the fundamentals of drug administration definitions and coding guidelines. OBJECTIVES: 1. Review the definitions of infusion and injection procedures as they relate to code assignment   2. Discuss essential coding guidelines for infusion and injection services     3. Examine sample coding scenarios for reporting drug administration services   ABSTRACT: Hospitals, freestanding infusion centers and physician offices have been impacted by definitions of procedure codes for injection and infusion services. This session will include an overview of the procedure codes required for reporting medication delivery, both for therapeutic and chemotherapy drug administration. A recent government memorandum announced a 2-year initiative designed to fight infusion therapy fraud. As a result, special attention will be given to code combinations and multiple procedures performed on the same date of service, including common coding scenarios. Last, medical record documentation is always important to support services billed to insurance, and never more so than when tracking multiple drugs and administration times. All this and more will be discussed in this fast-paced, informative session!
