2010 Webinar Abstract PRESENTATION TITLE: Coding Strategies for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Procedures GOAL The goal of this session is to improve participants’ understanding of coding and reimbursement principles for diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. OBJECTIVES Review procedure techniques and key terms for common nuclear medicine procedures ONE Discuss 2010 coding guidelines for commonly performed diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services – including but not limited to the new codes for Myocardial Perfusion Imaging TWO Review relevant billing and reimbursement issues for nuclear medicine THREE ABSTRACT: This session is designed to help the non-technologist make sense of nuclear medicine coding and billing. In addition to reviewing the 2010 CPT Code changes, commonly performed nuclear medicine exams will be discussed, including bone scans, lung scans, tumor and abscess localization, renal studies, and biliary studies. Procedure techniques will be reviewed to help participants distinguish between similar types of studies. The distinctions between imaging and non-imaging studies will be identified and explained. Billing and reimbursement issues will be reviewed, including Medicare radiopharmaceutical edits for hospital outpatient billing, and Medicare multiple procedure payment reduction for physician and imaging center billing.
