2008 CSI On-Demand Abstract
PRESENTATION TITLE:
Radiology Compliance
GOAL
To improve and ensure participants’ understanding of common radiology compliance issues, including Medicare rules regarding ordering and supervision of diagnostic tests and services performed by non-physician practitioners.
OBJECTIVES
1. Review CMS requirements regarding ordering of diagnostic tests.
2. Discuss physician supervision of diagnostic tests, including general, direct, and personal supervision.
3. Identify and discuss Medicare rules regarding non-physician practitioner services.
ABSTRACT:
Radiology has many complex regulatory requirements. This session will help improve participants’ understanding of these requirements and how to comply with them.
Physician orders for diagnostic tests will be discussed in detail, including when an order is needed; what constitutes an order; who can order a diagnostic test; and when an order can be amended by the radiologist or testing facility.
Medicare physician supervision rules will be reviewed, including requirements for general, direct, and personal supervision of diagnostic tests, and how to determine which test requires which level of supervision.
Finally, Medicare rules regarding non-physician practitioners will be discussed, including the rules for direct billing, “incident to” billing, and shared services.
At the end of the session, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding all of the points covered during the session.
